ALTERNATIVE PACKING

Not all shipments require full crate construction for transportation. Many pieces can easily travel on PACART vehicles with simple materials. PACART utilizes different approaches to packing two-dimensional and sculptural objects depending on the nature of the piece and the method of transportation.

  • HTS (Handling-Travel-Storage) Frame – A reusable option ideal for additional protection in transit or long-term storage.
  • Slat Crate – Single-use wooden skeleton crate offering good protection for delicate objects, sensitive surfaces, and elaborate frames, ideal for low-risk, one-way travel.
  • Custom cardboard box or slipcase – A sturdier option to the basic soft-packing approach, PACART will pack both 2-D and 3-D objects on site utilizing a variety of materials appropriate to the nature of the object.

SOFTPACKING

Within PACART’s network of shuttles and local transportation services, there are a number of items that can be moved safely using only soft materials. To protect artworks and artifacts during ground transportation, all items must be packed to offer protection from both the straps used to secure items in the truck, as well as environmental factors such as weather when an artwork needs to be transferred outside should a loading dock or controlled space not be available.

Our minimum requirements for softpacking include a layer of poly sheeting or bubble wrap, and an outer layer of sturdy material such as cardboard or corrugated plastic covering all sides of your item, leaving no area exposed. All seams must then be sealed with tape.
